ST. CHARLES – I had been wanting to try Poblano Pepper Grill since it opened in February in the Main Street Commons across from Charlestowne Mall, so it was with great anticipation that I visited the cozy, family-run restaurant for the first time with a friend.
The story behind the name adds to the wine experience.
ST. CHARLES – By all accounts, the fourth annual 60 Men Who Cook event put on by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce was a success, said Laura Rush, communications manager for the chamber.
ST. CHARLES – Kimmer’s Ice Cream of St. Charles is offering a promotion in recognition of May being Mental Health Month. Kimmer’s is featuring a special black raspberry sundae specifically designed to benefit TriCity Family Services. Throughout May, 10 percent of the proceeds from the sales of the sundae will be donated to TriCity Family Services.
GENEVA – Fox Valley Presbyterian Church is hosting a free community dinner from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the church, 227 East Side Drive, in Geneva.

GENEVA – Nestled on the south end of the the Dobson Place commercial property in downtown Geneva, Michael Angelo’s 3rd Street Deli features a terrific menu with fresh, homemade sandwiches, soups and salads.
Wine bottle selection at dinner can be a challenging task.
BATAVIA – The inaugural Cocktails on Clark is set for 7-10 p.m. May 19 and will feature refreshments, appetizers, live entertainment an an auction on Clark Island in downtown Batavia.

NORTH AURORA – Within a week of visiting Harner’s Bakery and Restaurant in North Aurora, the eatery came up in two separate conversations this writer had with sources, all in a very positive light. I wasn’t surprised at the Harner’s mentions, as during a recent lunch visit, my companion and I thoroughly enjoyed every last bite of our meals.
The 2011 vintage in Santa Barbara County is loaded with potential.
ST. CHARLES – The inaugural Craft Brews and Chicago Blues Festival is set to take place from 1-5 p.m. May 5 in the New Orleans Ballroom at Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 E. Main St., in St. Charles.
